Pastor Curt Grandi is a native of Pittsburgh, PA and had the privilege of growing up in a Christian home.  He came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age nine, at Camp Christian in Mill Run, PA, and attributes much of his spiritual formation to the example and influence of his mother and brothers, his grandparents, and to Rev. Joseph D. Sullivan, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in West Mifflin, PA, the church he grew up in.

Sensing a call to ministry, Curt enrolled at Philadelphia College of Bible with the idea of being a pastor.  While there, however, he found he was always involved in music, so he pursued a course of study where he would graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Bible, and a Bachelor of Music degree in 1989.  Following graduation, he continued his studies and graduated with a M. Music degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX in 1993.  He was licensed to the Gospel Ministry by Cross Timbers Baptist Church in Flower Mound, TX in 1993.

After serving as an Assistant Pastor and Music Minister for several years, Curt decided to join the US Navy, which brought him to San Diego, where he met the love of his life, Donna, and his incredibly charming stepson, Jonathan.  They were married on Feb. 7, 1999 in the chapel at Naval Air Station North Island.

During his time in the Navy, Curt served as Minister of Music here, at Southwest Baptist Church from April 1997 to April 1998.  After completing his enlistment in the Navy in May, 2000, Curt began looking for a full-time music ministry position.  The only position that opened up, however, was that of Interim Pastor at Coronado Baptist Church from June to August, 2000.  During that time, Jack Burns, pastor here at Southwest, under whom Curt had served as Music Minister, retired, and Curt submitted his resume to be considered for the position of pastor.  His call to that position came in September, 2000.
